FAQs
What is Person-Centered Therapy?
Person-centered therapy, also referred to as client-centered therapy, Rogerian psychotherapy, and person-centered psychotherapy, is a therapeutic approach developed by psychologist Carl Rogers in the mid-twentieth century. This form of psychotherapy emphasises the innate tendency towards growth and fulfillment in individuals, and aims to support this process through the provision of acceptance (unconditional positive regard), congruence (genuineness), and empathetic understanding.
How long will it take?
The duration of person-centered therapy varies, as it is dependent on the unique needs and experiences of each client. This approach is client-led, as the client holds the answers to their challenges and the role of the therapist is to accompany them on their journey. The goal is to facilitate the client's self-actualising tendencies, rather than dictate a specific timeline for treatment.
